Discovering the “Why”!
Truth is, when asked “why” we did, said, or thought something, we rarely give the real answer the first time. Often, we simply say the first thing that comes to mind. Maybe because we don’t trust the person with our truth or maybe we don’t really know it ourselves. I’ve found it’s important to always ask “why or what else?” and continue in this manner until I’ve got no further answers to the question. This is when I know I’ve gotten to the bottom of things.
The importance of this process is to truly understand our why so we can remain motivated to complete our task. If there is confusion or a lack of motivation typically it’s because we’ve forgotten why we started said project. Another reason would be it simply has no depth and after further evaluation we come to the conclusion we need to let it go. If something matters to our core, we will see the value in continuing in the process.
Understanding our “why” keeps us on track and our priorities in line. So the next time you feel unmotivated or stuck, stop and remind yourself why you began the project to begin with and see if this doesn’t help you find your way back.
